Disastrous Flood in Nepal
the world’s attention is now on the devastating flash-flood that tore through the river valley towns along the nepal-tibet border. only about 60 miles away from kathmandu.
our heart goes out to the victims and their families—and all the people of nepal.
microaid's workers are safe and accounted for, but they are devastated—somebody always knows, or is related to, someone in nepal.
it seems the disaster began when the lower portion of a glacier collapsed high in the himalayas sending an avalanche of ice, rock, and sediment into the lhende river producing a massive surge through the bhote koshi and trishuli river systems. scientists have not determined what destabilized the glacier, although an earthquake and unusually warm conditions are being investigated as possible factors.
microaid has been working in nepal for more than a decade, and we are ready to help where we can. at the moment, the disaster zone is complete mayhem, so, as usual, we will go in when the world’s attention has moved on, but thousands of families will still need our help. microaid will rebuild permanent houses to help people return to self sufficiency.
for now, we are praying for those that perished and the people who are missing.
and sending all our good energy to the people of nepal.
