PERU

In January and February of 2010, the area near Machu Pichu experienced the worst rains it had in 20 years. As a result, there were massive floods and devastating mudslides along the Vilcanota river. The town of Urubamba, in the Sacred Valley, was particularly hard hit, with torrential water destroying hundreds of homes and businesses, and displacing thousands of people.
