Update September 2010

Hello MicroAid supporters.

I hope this note finds you happy, healthy, and secure.

I have been laying the groundwork for disaster recovery projects in Samoa (tsunami 2009) and Peru (devastating floods and mudslides 2009-10). I am doing as much research and contact-building with local non-governmental organizations (NGOs), while I raise the funds to help. Please see the links for “What We’re Working On Now” and “Where We Work” for details.

Here in L.A., I continue to volunteer, and hone my construction skills, one day a week building houses for low income families with Habitat for Humanity. Over the years, as a crew leader, I have helped construct 22 homes. Additionally, having already been trained in Emergency and Disaster Response (E&DR) by the American Red Cross, I recently took their seminar in Recovery Planning and Assessment (RP&A), since “long-term recovery” is what MicroAid is all about. Attached is a page from the Red Cross newsletter that features a quote by me near the bottom.

I have also been in contact with our beneficiary families in Sri Lanka, and am happy to report that all is well. I look forward to someday returning to check up on them, and to helping more victims of the tsunami of 2004. Of course, with the latest killer floods in Pakistan, and the continuing problems in Haiti, MicroAid will have a lot to do in the years to come.

Thank you for your support.

Sincerely,

Jon
